49 games unbeaten…but 50 would be a better figure.

Finally our incredible, unbelievable unbeaten run came to an end last Sunday. Defeat at the hand of the Red Devils was surely a very disappointing result as we were in front of them the whole time, or at least until that controversial penalty decision. But I’m not going to say anything more about that. What past is past. There’s no point of saying it over and over again. Maybe it was our own fault not to score goals earlier, which could have killed the game as we did in the Charity Shields. Ok…enough of that. After all, they DID NOT break the record. They may have beat us..but that means that they stopped the run..not broke the record. Try 50 games unbeaten…and only then consider the record broken.
49 Games unbeaten..well..that was one incredible record. “Wenger’s Immortals,” “the unbeatable,” and many other nicknames were given to honor the outstanding achievement. Some people may not agree to say that this squad is one of the best of all time since we haven’t really showed much in Europe. Perhaps that is the main challenge left for Wenger as he has proved so much since his arrival at Highbury. Since his first season, the gunners never failed to finish among the top two in the Premiership, and almost made a record of 3 straight FA Cup Champion, if not beaten by the Red Devils in the semi-final of last season’s (Devils again??).
Well..this season’s Champions League’s campaign has been quite good for us. We still cannot bring that premiership fluency with us in Europe, but we are getting to it slowly. After all..a 1-1 draw away at Rosenborg and a 2-2 draw against the Greece Champion, Pananthinaikos, though a bit disappointing, was very crucial. 2 points away from home is never a bad result in Europe. At least we keep collecting points away from home. Hopefully the next 2 games at home would give us the maximum 6 points and ensure qualification for the next round.
The end of the unbeaten run is not the end of the world. We’re still leading the Premiership, and we’re still the most entertaining team in the league. 29 goals in 9 games..that’s an average of 3 goals per game..a wonderful stats to look at. What left now is to show our great character that we’ve been building throughout the unbeaten run by bouncing back from that defeat. We’ll be playing Southampton this Saturday for a beginning of a new run. The last run started with a 6-1 win..and I don’t see why that can’t happen this Saturday. Until then…

“I want to start a new run next game.” – Arsene Wenger
