The Return of the EPL
This was a perfect weekend for football lovers, except maybe if you are a man utd fan. The new 07/08 EPL season kicked off with a bang! I watched 6 live EPL games in the last 48 hours, that’s 3 games each in the last 2 nights. Gawd I just can’t get enough, can I?Drama, drama and more drama.
Sunderland, against all odds, got their first three points of the season thanks to injury time winner from Chopra.
Eriksson showed Thanksin that his money is pretty well spent after all.
Then another late winner in the Aston Villa – Liverpool match by the best English player in the EPL, captain fantastic, Stevie G. And it was one heck of a goal as well. Certainly worth staying up to 2 am.
Then there’s the most awaited of all the matches this weekend, the season opening match at the Emirates. Early drama when Lehmann made a horrendous mistake with just 51 seconds on the clock to give the visitor an unexpected early lead. Then the usual chances after chances but unable to find the back of the net. It was becoming more and more frustrating with each passing minutes. But I did not give up though. Never did, never will. Then finally we got our chance to get back on level terms when Toure was blocked in the penalty box. Robin stepped up to take it, Robin scored. Brilliant!!! 1-1 with 5 minutes to go. Minutes later, Hleb got pass the defenders, controlled the ball, and scored. Wuhhhhhhhhhhh!!! 2-1 the final score. Nothing more than what we deserved.
That was then followed by a 5 goal drama at Stamford Bridge with the Chelski new boys, Pizarro and Malouda on the score sheet. 3-2 to the Londoners, but not an easy game in any ways though.
And last but not the least, Man Utd failed to get 3 points from Reading. Credit to Reading for their terrific defending, even with a man short for the last 15 minutes.
If all of these are indications of what’s to come, then we are surely going to have a long and exciting season ahead. And I’m more than ready for that.
